We’re very excited about it and rehearsing furiously to be the slick little magic otters we are on the night. We’ve got some weird and wonderful tunes for your aural digstion, believe me! Very exciting stuff.
See listings for full details but expect dazzling entertainment and the opportunity to dance into the small hours, and all for £6.
That weekend there is a blockade at Hinkley Point power station where a new nuclear reactor is being proposed. Join us in protest.
One love x x
Album Release Party
December 30, 2011This is going to be an awesome night of highest quality revelry (as ever!). Floorspots from Dominie Rose Hooper, Jez Hellard and Symeon Webb kick off, followed by a set from mad Mancunian misters, the outragously gratifying Noon, who play good-wrenchingly good blues. We'll play a longer set to incorporate all our new tunes and Tom Walker of the infamous Uprizing Live PA will see us bouncing out the small hours with all that is dubwise, ragga and good. £6 on the door. Come be a part of it. x x
The Goblin’s Picnic
December 30, 2011We can't wait for this gig. It's hosted by Mister Rik Warren of Noon and The Secret Folk Club gigs in Manchester, in an outrageously beautiful spot edged gigantic hills and girdled with a crisp mountain lake. It is a jewel of a green place, seriously. I dare all of you to skinny dip. I double dare you in fact......... hahaaaaaaa!! You know you're going in that freezing cold water, you know it and I know it!!
New Album now on-line!
December 22, 2011
Yes! We’re very pleased to announce that our album album is now FINISHED!
ACTUALLY FINISHED! Done. It’s been a long time coming but we’re glad to release it into the world.. frankly it’s got too big for it’s boots and needs the fresh air
Many thanks to those that helped us along the way. Sam, Ben and Scott you are infinitely powerful in our eyes.
You can listen and purchase a digital copy (with sleeve artwork) at the site below:

(We’ve also made available our first EP – Woods, which until recently has just been an occasional cd at gigs)
Happy festive tinsel munching. Much love, Jake x
New Year’s Eve
October 12, 2011Seeing in the New Year on the furthest flung shores of the south west tip of our beautiful land, this should be a night to remember of revelling and feasting into the small hours. Further details and ticket prices to follow.
UPDATE: EVENT NOW CANCELLED - a great shame but due to some unpleasant occurrences the event has had to be cancelled. Hopefully we'll get down that way sometime in the near future!
Supporting Calico Jack
October 12, 2011Supporting the inimitable Calico Jack - sea shanties and drinking music of the best imaginable pedigree. Oooaarrrggggghhh seems an inevitable comment to make.
Gig at the Grain Barge
September 28, 2011
Like the flyer says really… our next full gig is coming up in Bristol playing with Eastpole Orchestra, described as “Passionate & energetic music with influences from Eastern Europe to the Middle East via South America”. Sounds like good times to me.

Fundraiser for two lovers. 10 Ton duet.
September 20, 2011So the story goes that Linsey, a sweet unassuming gentleman from round Glasto-way, was separated from his (native?) American sweetheart at the Canadian border due to visa issues and deported back here to Blighty. They've been separated a year, and the incredibly magnanimous Tor Webster is throwing a fundraising party to help Linsey reunite with his beau across the ocean. So we're playing a wee set alongside some fabulous others, and hope you'll make it. X
10 Ton duet in Anglesey
September 20, 2011All the way up in far-flung Anglesey an excellent bunch of characters gather to share their skills and wisdom. Youi may find the arts of green & traditional crafts & skills, workshops in low impact building techniques, renewable energy systems, permaculture, beekeeping plus activities for kids and families. SATURDAY is the woodland festival 11am-5pm and music is from 7pm, and SUNDAY is the sustainable living fair. Don't forget Anglesey, Ynys Mon, is a powerful historic place good for recharging your own batteries.... :)
On the radio
September 17, 2011Heads up, we’re recently had a live version of our song Mandrake featured on an independent radio station, Dandelion Radio. It’s part of a 3hr show by Mark Cunliffe, that repeats every day of September. Just had a listen to the whole thing – f**king brilliant. The track was recorded at the Firestation gig earlier in the year. Big thanks to Mark (and Cheryl!) for the feature.

(look for Mark C’s show in the schedule)

"Watusi Festival is back for 2011! After a great success in 2010 we’ve doubled in size and found a new, amazing, beautiful site: Fonmon Castle Grounds. Just 4km from last years site, we’ve relocated to the grounds of the 13th century castle with its woodland walk ways, stone wall paddocks, and sweeping views.
EARLY BIRD TICKETS ARE ON SALE NOW from our ticket shop at the amazing price of £45. There will only be a VERY limited amount of these on sale. (All tickets are sold subject to licensing conditions and approval)."
Supporting East Pole Orchestestra
July 11, 2011East Pole Orchestra are proper drinking music - balkan, latino, breton and varying degrees of madness. The Grain Barge is an excellent boat by the army surplus shop so I stand half a chance of replacing my boots at least before soundcheck... The Grain Barge have an open top deck to take in the harbour sights, they sell The Bristol Beer Co ales and are generally a bit good.

June 30, 2011
Well that was fun, wasn’t it?! We had a great couple of gigs – stormed through the Friday night gig and chilled through the Sunday afternoon. Personally, I love the juxtaposition between the late night stompy-stampy gigs and the Sunday afternoon chilled right out gigs. It was about as dynamic as the steady cold soaking and gradual coating in MUD throughout Friday only to be totally toasted to a sunburnt crisp on the Sunday.
Excellent vibes throughout, tho, and great for us to watch and study some of the professionals. I particularly enjoyed Lykke Li and Jake is clearly smitten. She was a very inspiring gothic firecracker – shame she moped about English audiences at the end. If I hadn’t been so taken aback I would definitely have suggested she get over it…
We had to turn down a backstage gig because Bex and I were leaving on the Sunday night. Someone spluttered ‘you turned down a backstage gig?!’ but I tell you what – my physical wellbeing and ability to do my job throughout the week actually came first that night… not kicking myself yet but maybe there’s time for that.
ALBUM’S STILL NOT BLOODY READY!!! It’s on the tip of the 10 Ton and will be offered up with shaking hands and little wet mouths as soon as we can. Bex and I are playing an acoustic duet gig in Tisbury this weekend and then rolling up our shirtsleeves for some hard graft at a permaculture farm in Dorset for a few days, so hopefully by the time we come out the other side reality will have put on a new, album-shaped coat… feel free to let us know if you want a copy.
The next two months are for writing. There are some monstrous tunes and a couple of nice ones in the making. I like the monstrous ones best… so watch this space. We’ll be playing if the right gigs come along but we’re really up for knuckling down and funnelling this recent inspiration. We write slowly, it takes time to put the tunes together and really fathom them ourselves, but I have absolute faith that the time will be well spent. If you want to see us somewhere near you and could help publicise such an event, or if you’re in a position to host us, get in touch.
Aside from that the mission is to keep the summer for summery antics wherever possible. I wish we didn’t have to work, I’m just grateful for work that I love, personally. It’s a wyrd time. Good to be together and pushing the energy out into new music, themes and projects… hope you’re all having the craic too. See ya somewhere soon…. Emx
New album
June 13, 2011WILL be ready soon! Promise. The joys of being skint musicians is such that it involves waiting and gathering all your little bits of shoe strings and tying them all together to make something of any value that you can swap for things like CDs.
As yet untitled, the album will consist of the following tunes: Beauty, The Front Line, Mandrake’s, Firewood, Myth, 2nd City and Word on My Lips. You’ll be able to buy a hard copy with pretty amazing artwork by the lads or you’ll be able to download the whole thing or individual tracks.
Cheers for the interest that folks have shown in the album so far. Much love. X
Ashley Wood Festival (duet)
May 23, 2011Booked by Jim Driscoll of The Bottle Gods and a lovely exchange of gigs; Bex and I met Jim in the spankingly open middle of NOWHERE in Spain at a rustic festival with no running water and no mains electricity. It was one of the best weekends of my life! Jim made me cry with his love-lorn songs up on a look-out point, playing into the setting sun so we gave him a gig up here at BrisFest 2010 and now he is returning the favour! Look out Tisbury...
Small World Festival
May 23, 2011Great lushness abounds at the acoustic firelit heart of Small World festival. These guys are one of the veterans of DOING THINGS RIGHT. Very beautiful gathering.
Chewing the fat
May 23, 2011So I thought it appropriate to update the waffle on here somewhat since it’s been an eventful few weeks to say the least. The Firestation May 7th gig was immaculately fabulous – we brought the woods inside and Paul Blakemore and Karen Dews provided spectactularly simple and effective projections. I felt the woodland breezes lifting everyone’s tresses there inside that big dingy madhouse. Liam Baukham filmed the event for free (footage soon come I hope!) and Binewski Murder and John Fairhurst ripped the place apart. It was knee-knocking following John onstage but I think we pulled it off. A big bear hug from him roaring that we’d raised the bar (ya bastards!) confirmed a sense of a job well done.
We all continued on to Glastonbury the following night for the same again and two nights of excessive drinking led to me falling asleep in inappropriate places. The less said the better…
On the back of these gigs our slot at St Werburgh’s community fair was changed to a headline slot, as was our slot on the Tadpole Stage, Glastonbury (Green Fields) and we’ve been given a stonking 11pm slot on Spit n Sawdust at Sunrise. We were also offered BoomTown fair but we’ve unfortunately missed the boat with that one booking-wise so all fingers are crossed for Shambala…
Bex and I played a duet gig in a restaurant last night which was REALLY WEIRD!! Nice but I’ve never had to sing QUIETLY before……. it was harder than I anticipated! And this Thursday we set sail for Kent and Small World festival which I personally am gagging for: a few chilled out nights with inspiring company on the other side of the country. It’s a sad note that I’ll then be going on to say my final farewells to a gorgeous and gone warrior friend who passed away last week. So please – if there’s only one thing to be gained from sad news like that is to remember those people who shut themselves away, who don’t necessarily come looking for the help they need, the friend you haven’t seen for so long… send them a message, give them a call. Raise your toast for absent friends and seek out the living with all your heart. Life is so precious and short. All love. x x x x
St Werburgh’s Festival
May 11, 2011Really very happy and chuffed and honoured to be offered the headlining slot at this rather marvellous coming-together of beautiful colourful folks and folkesses.

Bex and Emma duet
April 16, 2011Luvverly little sit-down-eatery specialising in particularly scrummy curry-type sustenance. We're going all folkie and throwing in a few unexpected covers for this one too. Let us croon to your digestion's smooth passage! Heh!
Eastside Roots
April 16, 2011We LOVE this festival. It's small, local, organic, community-based and fluffy as f***. I believe it's also free?? Come along, it's gorgeous.

Just been in the studio..
February 7, 2011New recordings, almost there! We spent four days with Scott at USB Productions, Mivart Studios, and two days with Sam Welbourne (Wild Cedar Records), and have done subsequent mixing with Sam and then Ben Capp of Neat Studios. We captured over an hour of pretty full on, mostly completely live recordings. What a mad intense few days locked in a basement eating raw chocolate and resisting tides of booze! FOCUS is a thrilling thing. There’s still much more to do but you can find a rough preview (especially if you happen to be a festival) on the Music page. So, just the mastering and artwork to take care of now…!
Glastonbury Festival
January 11, 201111pm Friday @ Tadpole Stage, Green Fields, and more arranged when we're on site..
